Eligible Expenses:
The grant covers 25% of eligible Alberta production costs. These include:

  • Production costs directly related to the creation of the film or television project.
  • Costs for hiring Alberta-based crew and talent.
  • Expenses for on-set training, job shadowing, and mentorship activities.

Ineligible Expenses:
The funds cannot be used for:

  • Costs incurred outside Alberta.
  • Marketing and distribution expenses.
  • Expenses not directly related to the production process.

Fees:
There are no fees associated with applying for or receiving this grant.

Qualifications

  • Must be an Alberta-based production company.
  • Must be producing a film, television series, or other eligible screen-based production.
  • Total production costs must be $499,999 CAD or greater.
  • Must apply for either a 22% or 30% tax credit rate.
  • Must provide employment opportunities for emerging talent and established industry professionals.
  • Must promote investment in the creation of smaller-budget productions by Alberta producers.

  • Disqualifications:

    • Productions with total production costs less than $499,999 CAD.
    • Productions not based in Alberta.
    • Productions that do not provide employment opportunities for Alberta-based talent.

This grant supports smaller-budget productions in Alberta. Your business can receive up to $125,000, covering 25% of eligible production costs. This funding helps manage your cash flow and supports the creation of Alberta content.

You can use the money for:

Additionally, there is a Training and Mentorship Incentive. You can get up to $35,000 more to support on-set training, job shadowing, and mentorship activities.

Program Steps

  1. Review the Guidelines: Start by reviewing the Alberta Made Production Grant guidelines to understand the requirements and ensure you are familiar with the application process.

  2. Create an Online Profile: If you are a new applicant, request access to set up an online profile. Complete the Front Office Registration form and email it to [email protected]. You will receive your login credentials via email.

  3. Gather Required Information and Documentation: Prepare the necessary documents for your application. These include:

    • AMPG Budget (for new applications)
    • AMPG Residency Declaration
    • Production Change Form
    • Mentorship Agreement Form (if applicable)
    • Evaluation Criteria document
    • Completion of Principal Photography Form
    • Final Project Declaration
  4. Submit the Online Application: Log in to the Online Grant Application System and submit your application along with all supporting documents. Ensure your application is complete and submitted by 11:59 pm on the deadline day. If the deadline falls on a statutory holiday or weekend, it will be extended to the next working day at 11:59 pm.

  5. Await Approval: After submitting your application, wait for approval. If approved, you will be contacted to confirm your intention to proceed with the grant.

  6. Sign the Grant Agreement: If you decide to proceed, a grant agreement will be sent to you. This agreement will include a list of project deliverables and reporting requirements.

  7. Track Obligations and Reporting: Ensure you meet all reporting requirements as outlined in the grant agreement and guidelines. Failure to do so could result in the termination of the grant agreement.

  8. Request Instalment Payment: Upon completion of principal photography or the date listed in Schedule 'C' of the Grant Agreement, log in to the Online Grant Application System to complete your reporting and request the instalment payment. Attach the Completion of Principal Photography Form if required.

  9. Request Final Payment: To request the final payment, complete the GATE report and attach the following:

    • Updated AMPG Budget
    • General Ledger
    • Final Project Declaration (if required)
    • Finalized Mentorship Agreement (if applicable)
    • Copy of the final production
  10. Obtain Alberta Logo: To obtain the Government of Alberta logo for your production, email the program office directly.
