Eligible Expenses:

  • Event production costs.

Ineligible Expenses:

  • Hospitality expenses.
  • Expenses related to foreign authors.

  • Fundraising activities, project evaluation, shareholder dividends, bonuses, or extraordinary compensation.
  • Costs for training or assistance in preparing grants and contribution applications.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Canadian-owned and Canadian-controlled organization or professional association, representing or related to the Canadian book publishing industry.
  • Must be incorporated under the laws of Canada or a province.
  • Canadian teaching institutions with a specialization in the book industry are eligible for funding of Professional Development projects.
  • Organizations that represent Canadian libraries may be eligible for projects that meet the objectives of the Canada Book Fund, but should contact the program before applying.

  • Disqualifications:

    • Projects that only benefit a single book publisher, Canadian-authored book, or an affiliated group of book publishers are not eligible.

Description

This program offers your business significant financial support to help you grow and thrive in the Canadian book industry. You can receive up to $2,000,000 per project per fiscal year if you are a not-for-profit organization, or up to $1,500,000 per project per fiscal year if you are a for-profit organization. Generally, the program covers 50% of eligible project expenses, but can fund up to 100% for not-for-profits with proper justification.

You can use the funds for:

  • Marketing projects: Promote and showcase Canadian-authored books, develop new markets, and increase awareness.
  • Technology projects: Improve industry efficiency and competitiveness through new technologies.
  • Professional development projects: Provide training, workshops, and mentoring to enhance skills and knowledge.

For internship projects, you can receive up to $15,000, or up to $22,500 if the intern is from an Indigenous community, an official-language minority community, a visible minority, or living with a print disability.

This funding can cover a wide range of expenses, including event production, marketing materials, professional services, market research, technology equipment, and intern salaries. Administrative expenses are also eligible up to 15% of other project costs.

  3. Sign and Date the Application Form: Ensure all required signatures are in place and the form is dated appropriately.

  5. Acknowledge Receipt: Wait for an acknowledgment of receipt from the program, which should arrive within two weeks of submission.
