Qualifications

  • Must be a Canadian-owned and Canadian-controlled organization or professional association, representing or related to the Canadian book publishing industry.
  • Must be incorporated under the laws of Canada or a province.
  • Canadian teaching institutions with a specialization in the book industry are eligible for funding of Professional Development projects.
  • Organizations that represent Canadian libraries may be eligible for projects that meet the objectives of the Canada Book Fund, but should contact the program before applying.

  • Disqualifications:

    • Projects that only benefit a single book publisher, Canadian-authored book, or an affiliated group of book publishers are not eligible.

This program offers your business a chance to receive up to $2,000,000 per project per fiscal year. This money can be used for various projects that benefit the Canadian book industry.

You can use the funds for:

  • For internship projects, the program can fund up to 50% of eligible expenses or $15,000. If you hire an intern from an Indigenous community, an official-language minority community, a visible minority, or someone living with a print disability, you may receive up to 75% of eligible expenses or $22,500.

Program Steps

  1. Complete the Application Form: Fill out the Application Form with accurate and detailed information about your project and organization.

  2. Prepare Documentation: Gather and prepare the following documents:

    • Detailed project description
    • Project budget
    • Latest audited financial statements of your organization
  3. Sign and Date the Application Form: Ensure that the Application Form is signed and dated by an authorized representative of your organization.

  4. Attach Supporting Documents: Attach all required supporting documents to your completed Application Form.

  5. Submit Electronically: Email your complete application package to [email protected]. Ensure the email is sent no later than 11:59 p.m. local time on the application deadline date.

  6. Acknowledge Receipt: You will receive an acknowledgment of receipt within two weeks of submitting your application.

  7. Wait for Evaluation: Your application will be reviewed for eligibility and evaluated based on the program’s criteria. Be prepared to provide additional information if requested.

  8. Funding Decision: You will be notified of the funding decision. If approved, you will receive details on how the funding will be provided, either as a grant or a contribution.

  9. Sign Funding Agreement: If your project is approved for a contribution, sign the funding agreement outlining the terms and conditions.

  10. Submit Interim and Final Reports: During and after the project, submit any required interim and final reports as specified in your funding agreement.
