Repayment Terms and Interest Rates:

Eligible Expenses:

  • Broadband or cellular-related capital and equipment costs (e.g., towers, antennas, electronics, site buildings).
  • Projects must deliver a minimum of 25 Mbps to consumers.

Use of Funds:

  • Up to 50% of eligible costs, with a maximum of $1 million per project.
  • Targeted funding of $500 per dwelling within the coverage area.
  • Projects delivering 50 Mbps or greater may receive up to $1,500 per dwelling.

Ineligible Expenses:

  • Funds cannot be used to overbuild existing network solutions.

Fees:

  • No application or processing fees associated with this program.

Qualifications

  • Must be a municipality, municipal organization, Indigenous Community, or community-based network (not-for-profit economic development/innovation centres) in Northern Ontario.
  • Must have applied to and been declined funding under other Ontario infrastructure programs, including the Improving Connectivity in Ontario (ICON) program administered by the Ministry of Infrastructure (MOI) and/or do not meet the eligibility requirements.

  • Disqualifications:

    • Businesses or organizations not located in Northern Ontario.
    • Projects that have not applied to other available infrastructure programs or cannot provide a detailed explanation of ineligibility.

    • Detailed explanation if the project was ineligible for other programs.
  4. Complete Application Sections:

    • Follow the onscreen instructions to complete each section of your application.
    • Provide all required information and upload necessary documents.
  5. Submit Application:

    • Review your application to ensure all information is accurate and complete.
    • Click "Submit application."
  6. Wait for Response:

    • You will hear back from the NOHFC in 2 to 4 weeks regarding the status of your application.
