Financing Details

Type of Financing:

  • Grant: Financial assistance is provided as a grant, not requiring repayment.

Eligible Expenses:

  • Costs related to repairing and replacing uninsurable, essential basic property loss due to the spring 2023 wildfires are covered.

Ineligible Expenses:

  • Repair and replacement costs for insured and insurable items, as well as food lost due to the wildfires, are not eligible for assistance.

Fees:

  • There is no cost to apply for the grant program.

Qualifications

  • Must be a small business.
  • Damage must have occurred during the wildfires in Halifax Regional Municipality, Shelburne County, and Yarmouth County between 27 May to 11 June 2023.
  • Must not have insurance to cover the entire loss.
  • Must own the property affected by the wildfires.
  • Must operate as a non-profit organization.
  • Must operate a facility in the community’s interest with unrestricted public access.
  • Must apply by 31 January 2024.

  • Damage or loss covered by insurance.
  • Insurable items, even if insurance was not purchased.
  • Food loss due to the wildfires.

Program Steps

  1. Complete the Application Form:

    • Fill out the Disaster Assistance for Non-profits Application Form.
  2. Prepare Required Documentation:

    • Name of insurance company, policy number, and agent’s name and phone number.
    • Photos of the damage, as well as any “before” photos if available.
    • Itemized description of damage or loss and replacement cost estimates.
    • Copy of the articles of incorporation.
    • Copy of the organization’s latest annual financial statements.
    • Copy of your rental agreement, if applicable.
    • Authorized representative of the organization available to sign the form.
    • Authorized representative of your insurance company available to complete and sign the Confirmation of Insurance Form.
  3. Complete the Confirmation of Insurance Form:

    • Ensure your insurance company fills out and signs this form.
  4. Review Application for Completeness:

    • Double-check that all sections of the application form are filled out.
    • Ensure all required supporting documents are included.
  5. Submit the Application:

    • Send your completed application and all supporting documents by mail to the address provided in the application form.
