Type of Financing: Wage Subsidy
Repayment Terms and Interest Rates:
- This is a subsidy, so there are no repayment terms or interest rates.
Eligible Expenses:
- The subsidy covers wages for students and recent graduates.
- Employers receive 50% of the student or graduate’s wages, up to $10.00 an hour.
- For students or graduates who self-identify as Mi’kmaq or Indigenous, a woman in an underrepresented occupation, visible minority, African Nova Scotian, or a person with a disability, the subsidy increases to 60%, up to $12.00 an hour.
Use of Funds:
- Funds must be used to pay wages for students and recent graduates during a 12 to 17-week work term.
Restrictions:
- Funds cannot be used for any expenses other than wages for the eligible work term.
Fees:
- There are no fees associated with this program.
Qualifications
- Must be a business with up to 500 employees.
- Must be operating in Nova Scotia.
- Must have a direct connection to the energy sector.
- Must provide work experience directly related to the student’s field of study.
- Must pay at least the legal minimum wage, plus 4% vacation pay.
- Must hire current students (including co-op students) or recent graduates who graduated within 18 months before starting the work term from a Nova Scotia postsecondary institution.
Students and recent graduates must start their work terms by 10 June 2024.
Disqualifications:
- Businesses not operating in Nova Scotia.
- Businesses with no direct connection to the energy sector.
- Businesses unable to provide work experience related to the student’s field of study.
- Businesses that do not meet the minimum wage and vacation pay requirements.

Complete the Application Form: Fill out the application form included in the application package. Ensure all sections are completed accurately.
Submit the Application: Submit your completed application form and all required documents by the deadline, 2 February 2024.
