Qualifications

  • Must be a Nunavut company incorporated under the laws of Nunavut or Canada.
  • Must be majority-owned (51% or more) by Nunavut residents.
  • Must have a head office in Nunavut.
  • Must hold distribution rights for the Inuktut version of the program within Nunavut.
  • Must have a guarantee of distribution and/or broadcast of the program within Nunavut.

  • Disqualifications:

    • Businesses not incorporated.
    • Businesses without a head office in Nunavut.
    • Businesses not majority-owned by Nunavut residents.
    • Businesses without distribution rights for the Inuktut version of the program within Nunavut.
    • Businesses without a guarantee of distribution and/or broadcast within Nunavut.

Description

This program offers your business a grant of 33% of the cost of versioning, up to a maximum of $10,000 per project. This funding is designed to help you translate existing programs into Inuktut, either Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun.

Here’s how the grant is paid out:

  • 50% upon approval and execution of a Contribution Agreement
  • 50% upon receipt of a signed final cost report and a copy of the program

The grant can be used for costs related to versioning your existing programming. This includes expenses for translation, voice-over, and any other necessary production costs.

Program Steps

  1. Complete the Application Form: Fill out the application form with accurate information about your business and the project you are seeking funding for.

  2. Prepare Required Documentation: Gather and prepare the following documents:

    • Completed and signed application form
    • Detailed budget and financing plan
    • Copy of the distribution contract or license agreement granting distribution rights to the Inuktut version of the program within Nunavut
    • Copy of the program to be versioned (only one episode is necessary for a series)
    • Applicant’s Certificate of Incorporation
    • Completed and signed Certificate of Officer (Schedule A)
  3. Submit the Application: Submit the completed application form along with all the required documentation to Nunavut Film.

  4. Await Notification: Wait for Nunavut Film to review your application. You will be notified of their decision via email.

  5. Review and Execute Contribution Agreement: If approved, review the contribution agreement sent by Nunavut Film. Sign and return the agreement to proceed.

  6. Receive Initial Grant Payment: Upon approval and execution of the contribution agreement, you will receive the first 50% of the grant.

  7. Complete the Project: Carry out the versioning of the program as outlined in your application and budget plan.

  8. Submit Final Cost Report: After completing the project, submit a signed final cost report and a copy of the versioned program to Nunavut Film.

  9. Receive Final Grant Payment: Upon receipt and approval of the final cost report and versioned program, you will receive the remaining 50% of the grant.
