Financing Details
Financing Type: The program offers a wage subsidy, which is a financial incentive to employers. This subsidy covers up to 50% of the wages for Métis youth and other eligible Métis workers for a period of up to six months, or during the summer months from May to August.
Repayment Terms: There are no repayment terms as this is a non-repayable subsidy, not a loan. This means you do not need to pay back the funds provided under this subsidy as long as they are used according to the program guidelines.
Eligible Expenses: The subsidy can be applied towards the wages of hired Métis individuals. This includes regular wages but excludes Mandatory Employment Related Costs (MERCs) such as employee benefits and pension contributions.
Restrictions on Use of Funds: The funds from this subsidy must not exceed 50% of the wages and are capped at the provincial minimum wage. They cannot be used for non-wage related expenses or costs not directly associated with employment wages of the Métis individuals.

Qualifications
Qualifications for the Program
- Business Location: Must be located in an area served by Rupertsland Institute's MÉTIS centres.
- Employment Focus: Must plan to hire Métis workers, specifically focusing on providing career-related work experience and training.
- Program Type:
- Employment Partnership: Must plan to hire Métis individuals permanently and provide on-the-job training.
- Youth Summer Employment: Must offer summer job opportunities to Métis youth aged 15-30.
- Wage Subsidy:
- Eligible for a subsidy covering up to 50% of wages for Métis workers for six months or less.
- For Youth Summer Employment, the subsidy applies between May and August and cannot exceed the provincial minimum wage.
- Not-for-profit organizations may receive up to 100% wage reimbursement, up to the provincial minimum wage.
- Training and Support: Must be willing to partner with RLI for customized training projects and support Métis individuals with necessary employment tools and certifications.
