Repayment Terms and Interest Rates:

  • There are no repayment terms or interest rates. This is a subsidy, not a loan.

Eligible Expenses:

  • Wages for student employees.
  • Vacation pay for student employees.

Use of Funds:

  • Funds can be used to pay student employees' wages.
  • Funds can be used to cover vacation pay for student employees.

Restrictions on Use of Funds:

  • Funds cannot be used for other costs such as Employment Insurance (EI), Canada Pension Plan (CPP), or Workers Compensation premiums. These costs are the employer's responsibility.

Fees:

  • There are no fees associated with this program.

Qualifications

  • Must be a non-profit, private business, or public sector organization.
  • Business must be operating in Prince Edward Island.
  • Must provide a PEI Corporate Registry number.
  • Must have a Business HST number.
  • Must have a CRA payroll number.
  • Must have a Worker’s Compensation Number.
  • Must disclose any previous provincial and/or federal government agreements.
  • Must disclose any default amount owing to a government department or agency.
  • Must provide legal signing officers for binding legal agreements and payment claims.
  • Must provide a project or activity description.
  • Must provide position title and job activities/duties.
  • Must outline objectives to be achieved.
  • Must specify education and skills required.
  • Must provide duration including start and end date and total weeks.
  • Must specify rate of pay (hourly).
  • Must provide supervisor name and contact details.
  • Must provide name and contact for person responsible for payroll/timesheet, if different from supervisor.
  • Must complete PEI Government vendor registration form and upload it to the webform.

  • Disqualifications:

    • Businesses with any default amount owing to a government department or agency.

Description

This program offers a great opportunity for your business to hire students during the summer. You can receive financial support to cover part of their wages, making it easier to bring in fresh talent.

You can get funding for up to 40 hours per week. If you are a non-profit or public sector employer, you can get 100% of the provincial minimum wage plus 4% vacation pay. If you are a private sector employer, you can get 50% of the provincial minimum wage plus 4% vacation pay.

The funding can be used to pay students who will be working for you for 8 to 18 weeks, depending on the program. This can help you manage your costs while providing valuable work experience to students. The program focuses on jobs that offer practical skills and knowledge related to the students' fields of study, benefiting both your business and the students.

  2. Complete the Online Application Form:

    • Visit the program's webpage.

  3. Submit the Application:

    • Submit the application before the deadline of March 29, 2024.
  4. Wait for Confirmation:

    • Successful candidates for the Post-Secondary Program will be contacted by May 10, 2024.
  5. Prepare for Employment:

    • Once approved, ensure all necessary arrangements are in place for the student’s employment.
    • Maintain accurate payroll records and project summaries.
  6. Submit Final Documentation:

    • Submit the project summary and payroll records within 30 days of the project’s completion.
    • Repay any unused portion of the payment to the funding agency, Employment Development Agency, or Skills PEI.
