Repayment Terms and Interest Rates:

  • There are no repayment terms or interest rates. This is a non-repayable grant.

Eligible Expenses:

  • Provincial Sales Tax (PST)
  • Incremental salaries, wages, and benefits
  • Subcontracted services
  • Professional fees
  • Knowledge transfer
  • Facility and equipment rentals (including laboratory equipment and facility)
  • Materials and supplies
  • Travel expenses (related to knowledge transfer and project activities within North America)
  • Overhead up to ten percent of total approved expenses
  • Capital equipment (research equipment and specific equipment training greater than $10,000)

Ineligible Expenses:

  • The funds cannot be used for expenses outside the specified eligible categories.

Fees:

  • There are no fees associated with this grant program.

Qualifications

  • Must be an agri-processor.
  • Must be an Indigenous government, individual, business, community, or organization undertaking agricultural initiatives.
  • Must be an industry organization.
  • Must be a primary producer.
  • Must be a research institution.
  • Must be a service provider.

  • Disqualifications:

    • Applicants identifying solely as researchers (including academic institutions) without a non-researcher, non-government co-applicant.
    • Government of Canada departments or agencies without a non-researcher, non-government co-applicant.

Description

This program offers funding to support your business's research and innovation projects. You can receive financial assistance for both basic and applied research, as well as capacity building.

For basic and applied research, the program covers projects that expand knowledge or find practical solutions to specific problems. For capacity building, you can get funding for purchasing research equipment (over $10,000) and specific equipment training.

Funding is cost-shared between the government and your business. For basic and applied research without intellectual property or confidentiality requirements, the government covers 70% of the first $100,000 and 60% of any amount over $100,000. If intellectual property or confidentiality is required, the cost share is 50:50. For capacity building, the cost share is also 50:50.

Program Steps

  1. Complete a Letter of Intent (LOI): Start by filling out the Letter of Intent form. This is the first stage of the application process. Ensure all sections are thoroughly completed.

    • Business plan
    • Details of intended use of funds
    • Quotes for equipment or project costs
    • Any other relevant supporting documents
  3. Submit the LOI: Submit the completed Letter of Intent along with the prepared documentation. Follow the instructions provided for submission, ensuring all required information is included.

  4. Await LOI Review: Wait for the review process of your LOI. If your project is deemed eligible, you will be invited to proceed to the next stage.

  5. Complete Full Proposal: If invited, complete the full proposal by filling out the Application Worksheet provided. This will require more detailed information about your project.

  6. Submit Full Proposal: Submit the completed Application Worksheet and any additional required documents. Ensure all information is accurate and comprehensive.

  7. Review and Approval: The full proposal will be reviewed. This may involve further discussions or requests for additional information.

  8. Final Approval and Funding: Once approved, discuss the final terms, including cost-sharing ratios and project timelines. Upon agreement, funding will be disbursed to support your project.
